How pencils are made:
To start, you need to get a block of wood that is soft enought to sharpen, and strong enought to hold up to the pressure of being written with. Each company uses different trees and woods specific to their pencils. Then you need to take the block of wood (1) and shape it into slabs(2-3). Take the slabs and cave groves into them (4) next so that you can up in the pencil leads in later. Once you put in the lead shafts (5) and glue to hold the pencil lead shafts in place for 1/2 of the slabs, put another groved slab on top of the leaded slabs since the slabs are only 1/2 of the finnished pencil lead casing (6). Together, the pencil leads and wood pencil housing are almost pencils except for their shape, these forming pencils are in somewhat of a sandwhich that needs to be cut up into singular pencils (7-8).
From this stage onward, the steps are different depending on the company but for most companies, after they single out all the pencils, the pencils get their coat of paint (9), manufature ID, and eraser tip. Coat colors, IDs, and erasers all vary from company to company. One last thing before they go into boxes is that some pencils will get sharpened. After that, the pencils are put into packaging and shipped away to stores world wide (10).
